Certificate of Professional Development in Renal Nursing Care

Aims and Summary.

Renal nursing is an area of specialisation that deals with the care and management of patients of all ages with different kind of kidney disease and impairment. Over the years there has been a significant rise in the number of patients with kidney disease requiring specialist care and management. Many hospitals both in the private sector are investing on expanding their services and setting up specialised renal care units. This course will contribute to the training of man power to manage the ever-growing patient numbers and giving everyone the best possible care available and training nurses to deliver an international standard of renal nursing care.

 

This  course is designed with a view to integrate the components of wholeness in the care of the individual with renal problems, taking into concern changes in health patterns. This includes involving the patient’s family and community in meeting their needs.

The aim of this Course is to
to use the knowledge received about physical, social, and psychological needs of patients with renal disease within the work role.
discuss the ethical, cultural, religious, spiritual, and quality of life issues associated with renal disease
describe treatment options and the potential side effects or complications commonly associated with these treatments.
examine current clinical practice and develop suggestions, underpinned by evidence, for how practice can be enhanced.
communicate developments in practice to the multidisciplinary team.

Course Commencement Applicants may commence this course when the required number of applicants for the course have been registered.

Course will be offered in 3 intakes per academic year – March, July and November.

Pre-requisites and co-requisites Applicants should have successfully completed a 3-year recognised nursing qualification.

 

Applications will be encouraged from non-standard entrants with relevant experiential learning and evidence of continuing professional development.

 

 

Candidates who have not completed their prior education in English are required to have achieved IELTS 6.5 with no component lower than 5.5. Other accepted measures of English language are; TOEFL-iBT: at least 12 for listening, 13 for reading, 21 for writing and 18 for speaking or PTE Academic: at least 50 for each of the 4 components or OET: at least B for each of the 4 components or Cambridge C1 Advanced test: at least 169 in each of the 4 components or CEFR Scale: at least B2 level.

 

Candidates must possess basic knowledge in IT including; MS office packages (MS Word and MS PowerPoint), internet and email.

 

All candidates must be available to allocate the required study time over a consecutive period of 32 weeks (8 months) from the date of course commencement.  This includes online interactive lessons and as well as self-study.
